PLC relies on volunteers to help steward its many conservation easements and preserves. As opposed to one-time stewardship workdays, our Volunteer Land Stewards (VoLS) “adopt” a property and help care for it over a period of years. Volunteer Land Stewards commit to:
Adopting a specific restoration area for a minimum of 2 years
Receiving training on stewardship methods from PLC staff
Visiting and caring for their restoration area at least once every 3 months but are welcome to visit it weekly!
This can look like trail maintenance, invasive species management, trash pick up, or species data collection
Filling out a one-page report every quarter about work accomplished
Volunteer Land Stewards also have the unique opportunity to: Use their skills to coordinate volunteer-led stewardship work days on PLC lands! Interested VoLS can receive volunteer leadership training from PLC staff and then coordinate work days for the local community. The volunteer-led conservation efforts on our Elwood Wildlife Preserve demonstrate how impactful volunteers are to our mission with their bi-monthly work parties!

Upcoming VoLS Special Opportunity!
PLC is looking to recruit Volunteer Land Stewards to help care for the bare root tree plantings at Wigwam Hollow Bird Sanctuary. These trees require our help in order to thrive on the preserve. Stewardship work will mainly revolve around the removal of invasives species which can outcompete these young trees. Please register at the link below if you are interested in receiving training to become a VoLS at WHBS!
