I graduated from Western Illinois University in 1973 with a business degree and worked as a grain merchandiser with Illinois Grain/Growmark for 10 years. Then I returned to WIU for accounting, and to take care of my ailing mother. I earned my Master of Accountancy degree and passed the CPA examination. I also received the Master of Accountancy Student of the Year award. After graduation, I worked in public accounting with McGladrey and Pullen (now called RSM), and taught accounting part-time.
In 1989 I started teaching full-time at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. I was at St. Ambrose for 28 years as an assistant professor of accounting. For 11 of those 28 years, I was the chair of the Accounting Department and the director of the Master of Accounting program. In 2014 I was given the Faculty Member of the Year award. I retired in May of 2017 and was awarded professor emeritus status at SAU. Because I do miss teaching, I occasionally teach a course at St. Ambrose.
Since I was a child, I have always enjoyed and loved nature and wildlife. Therefore, I strongly agree with and support the mission of Prairie Land Conservancy. Furthermore, I am honored to be on the board of an organization that so strongly supports nature and wildlife.
