Professional: Kevin is a Professor with more than 27 years of teaching experience in the School of Engineering & Technology at Western Illinois University. His research interests include lean manufacturing (flow production) and cost-reduction practices in all fields. Prior, he completed two Industrial Technology Degrees at WIU, attended Northern Illinois University, and obtained a Doctorate in Education (Curriculum and Instruction) at Illinois State University. He has been a researcher and practitioner of continuous lean improvement for more than 18 years, working for MEPs in Iowa, and for Duggan Associates, Inc. (Rhode Island), in data collection and preparing materials for executive-level training, operational excellence training, organizational alignment, and lean flow production strategies. Today, Kevin currently consults and trains engineers, supervisors, and managers at area companies in continuous improvement practices. Kevin’s career focus continues to be the professional development of students, including technical/mechanical skills, written and verbal communication, research, and problem-solving.
Prior to his career in education, Kevin served in the United States Army National Guard as an E-5 in the 444th Chemical Company in Freeport, Illinois. Kevin also worked as a laborer, maintenance, and machine operator at Heartwood Creations in Rockford, IL, and as a mechanical engineer for Dial Corporation in Ft. Madison, IA.
Personal: Kevin has been married for 30 years (Kate) and has two daughters (Kelsey, and Lauren) and a son (Will). In his free time, he plays 8-Ball in the Midwest Pool League (Macomb American Legion) and an occasional 8/9-ball tournament in Illinois or Iowa.
Kevin is an outdoor enthusiast and presently owns/operates three properties. While his personal interests include outdoor recreation such as hunting & fishing, land management for habitat improvement is his primary focus. His love of bowhunting evolved into becoming a land steward. Removing invasive species, controlled burns, planting grasses, opening areas, planting trees, and establishing food plots are full-time jobs. If we lose the forests, we lose the habitat, and the animal species and their numbers eventually suffer. Like others in PLC, Kevin’s goal as a steward is to develop and preserve wildlife habitats for future generations to enjoy.
